this is our time to medicate (afi 1/30)

last night was simply the best night of my life...

play-by-play time!

*

my mom and i left the house at 11:30, picked up some stuff, and grabbed lunch. we were on our way to tempe when the 202 was closed. fucking great. so we called onstar and got on another route, using the streets. then it turned out that curry detoured to miller wayy before we had to turn on to mill. so we called again and, after an hour of driving, made it to mill st. we passed the marquee listening to medicate just as davey sang, "this is our time to medicate." we screamed when we saw the marquee, then when we saw afi on the board!

so we hung out a while in line and met a df'r (divineinsanity) and her friend. we chatted for a while, used the bathroom, and the time went by quickly. mom also verified our tix (long sob story about tix) :) so after that, we just waited. no sign of a df line, but then half an hour before the show, one was made. we went into the venue after a rigorous check (not just bags; being frisked AND having to take our shoes off -- what the hell could people hide in chucks, vans, and creepers?!) and all got barricade spots! i was way to the left on hunter's side. people slowly filtered in after getting their shoes back on.

before the show, i spotted mark/panasonicyouth who was shooting for the show. i called him over and thanked him for reading twilight so i don't have to! :D

audra, the first opener, was pretty good. they had this one song that totally gave them points -- "i could really use a girl like you... in my basement." lots of people hated them though, kept screaming for afi... what the hell, show the opening acts your respect goddammit. so anyway, then came on ceremony. they were fucking AMAZING. i expected more of a pit though. more people liked them but i had to yell "SHUT UP!" once or twice... 'specially since there were a few miss murders behind me.

then afi came out and there was this surge... they opened with medicate. earlier in line we'd heard them soundcheck okay i feel better now and guess what was played! they also pulled out file 13 & love is a many splendored thing. the crowd really only screamed with the singles & iatvhtbh though :( i expected more from 1k people! it was amazing. through the whole thing i tried to start a "through our bleeding, we are one" chant, but it took off when hunter came out before death of seasons began. i watched him play it, hahaha, and i am indeed playing the intro right! hunter totally kicks ass on bass. and another song that kicked serious ass was dancing through sunday, which was totally unexpected!

afterwards, we made our way out to the merch table. i got the df tour shirt, the sticker/button pack, and a silver sing the sorrow. mom got the pack and the regular shirt. (i also still have my wristband from the df line)

so we all went out and snacked a bit, talked with divineinsanity and her friend, and waited for the band to come out. it was really chilly... divineinsanity had to leave, we bid her and her friend farewell. and waited with a group of people who'd made vegan key lime pie. then the band left... we saw davey and called out to him but... ah well. so we piled in the car... guess what, the battery was dead. we got a jump from an unnamed df'r and got back home, listening to sing the sorrow.

best night of my life? easily. can't wait to be in the pit at my next green day show!
